  • Always pushing the bar

This band changes it up every album but this one is not their best work. Some good tracks on here. Doomed user is the best song on this album.
  • Expected a better album.

The more you listen to the album the better it gets, great to work out to in my opinion, Gore and Rubicon hands down the best on the album
  • The only not great deftones album

    By Nicco, DC
I am a huge deftones fan and I would give every deftones album 5/5 stars except for this one. I believe there is some good song writing here, but the production quality is awful. Also the bass guitar sounds like it is out of tune and it way too loud. I think maybe it is because of a new bass player? I don’t know, but I literally have to turn the bass down all the way when I listen to this album.
  • I’m not sure what happened...

I fell in love with this band in the 90’s, with their initial album. Adrenaline hit the scene like a brick to the head. It had everything anyone could ask for and then some! And with each successive album, Deftones grew into a juggernaut of sound. Each new release bringing something different, yet never letting go of the unique flavor that only they could deliver. Around the Fur gave us a slicker, more mature follow up, adding depth to their sound. White Pony experimented with tonal changes, allowing more melody and harmony and becoming more accessible to a wider audience. Their self titled was a return to a grittier style, without sacrificing all the growth the band had embraced. Saturday Night Wrist (my personal favorite) was by far the pinnacle of excellence and to this day remains the crowning achievement in an astounding library of musical genius. However, it was at this point (with the death of Chi Cheng RIP), that the bands direction took its sharpest turn. Their follow up to SNW, Diamond Eyes, greatly changed their sound. While still a fantastic album, the style change was greatly evident. Koi No Yokam followed suit and pushed that sound departure even further. I regret to say that I cannot identify a single song on the album that I can claim to be a favorite. Unfortunately, it seems Gore has pushed this trend even further. For the first time in my life, as a die hard fan of Deftones, I declined purchasing their latest album. While this new sound is definitely unique, it is too far of a departure from what I’m used to. It seems the band that I have enjoyed the most is no longer. I hope that some day they’ll release something more akin to previous work, but for now, I’ll be passing on this new sound.

Some ppl are complaining that they don’t hear Steph’s heavy pulls off of Chino’s guitar, they’re obviously not listening to the full album or even a full song. They’re still maintaining that push pull guitar medley they always have. Great album! Different in many ways but it wouldn’t be deftones if it wasn’t. Such an amazing band.
  • Disappointed

Disappointed in Deftones die-hards who like this. By far their worst and laziest album. The songwriting is poor - it's just a bunch of riffs tacked together most of the time. The vocals are uninspired and Chino's voice sounds weak, though I don't want to harp on that. I love Chino and I think he may genuinely be losing his voice, which is sad. I'm just wondering what long-time fans even like about Deftones if not their songwriting and unique vocals. They can do so so much better guys, you have to know that. My favorite drummer (Abe) is doing what he can on these crappy songs. Prayers/Triangles and Hearts/Wires are the only songs here worth the time.
  • Good but...

I’m a huge fan and will always be! This album was a departure from what we’re used to hearing from them which is what makes them so great but I had a hard time getting into it like previous albums. Still a great album but...
  • This band can do no wrong

    By SweetHomeChicago96
Eight albums in, three decades later, Deftones have still yet to put out anything less than stellar. Each album is a unique body of work, with every album having a distinct sound and personality that separates it from their other releases. Gore is a great space rock / metal album with traces of shoegaze throughout. Hope we see a new album in 2018 or 2019!
